Trump Increases Tariffs on Canada Amid Reagan Ad Dispute
Oct 27, 2025 3:17 AM

06:14 AM EDT, 10/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US President Donald Trump said Saturday he was raising the tariff rate on Canada by an additional 10% "above what they are paying now" following what he described as a "fraudulent" advertisement by Canada's Ontario province referencing former US President Ronald Reagan's remarks on tariffs.

"Ronald Reagan loved tariffs for purposes of national security and the economy, but Canada said he didn't," Trump said in a social media post. "Because of their serious misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act, I am increasing the tariff on Canada by 10% over and above what they are paying now."

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute said in a post on X that the Government of Ontario "did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks."
