06:08 AM EDT, 09/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US President Donald Trump signed a memorandum Tuesday that will provide greater transparency and accuracy in direct-to-consumer prescription drug advertisements.
The memorandum directed the Secretary of Health and Human Services to ensure transparency and accuracy in direct-to-consumer prescription drug ads. It also directed the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration to enforce legal requirements on the truthfulness of prescription drug ads.
The FDA plans to send out around 100 cease-and-desist enforcement notices and thousands of letters warning pharmaceutical companies that direct-to-consumer ads must comply with current regulations, Reuters reported, quoting senior administration officials.
The FDA said it is planning to enforce regulations stipulating that drug ads cannot create a misleading impression about the products and the need to properly disclose side effects, Reuters reported.
