05:56 AM EST, 02/19/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that seeks to gain control over independent government agencies, the White House said Tuesday.
The order requires all agencies, including agencies that operate with some independence of the White House such as the Federal Communications Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Trade Commission, to submit proposed regulations to the White House for review and asserts that the president's and the attorney general's interpretation of the law as binding against them.
"For the Federal Government to be truly accountable to the American people, officials who wield vast executive power must be supervised and controlled by the people's elected President," according to the executive order.
The order exempts the monetary policy functions of the Federal Reserve from its coverage.
