04:34 AM EDT, 08/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US President Donald Trump said Monday that his administration will raise tariffs and impose export restrictions on countries that tax or regulate US technology companies.
"Digital taxes, digital services legislation, and digital markets regulations are all designed to harm, or discriminate against, American technology," Trump said in a social media post. "They also, outrageously, give a complete pass to China's largest tech companies. This must end."
The move is seen as a direct threat to countries that Trump views as discriminating against US companies such as Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Meta Platforms ( META ) , The Wall Street Journal reported. Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) are among the semiconductor companies that could be concerned by the threat to limit exports of advanced chips required to train artificial-intelligence models, according to the report.
