06:22 AM EDT, 07/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US President Donald Trump warned late Sunday that any country aligning itself with the policies of BRICS, the trading and security bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, would face additional import tariffs.

"Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. "There will be no exceptions to this policy."

In addition to the original members, the group now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, along with Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam as lower-tier members, according to the official BRICS website.

The leaders of the group are currently gathering at a summit in Brazil, where they have issued a statement criticizing Trump's policy, Reuters reported.
