Uber Technologies to Pay US Commuters $1,000 to Switch to Alternative Commute Options in Five-Week Trial
Jun 27, 2024 5:26 AM

07:59 AM EDT, 06/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Uber Technologies ( UBER ) said Thursday it will pay commuters in US and Canada $1,000 in credits if they take public and other transport services over their cars for five weeks, as part of a new promo aimed at reducing emissions.

Up to 175 car owners in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, Miami, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver can participate in the "One Less Car" program, which will run from July 22 to August 25, Uber ( UBER ) said.

"Based on the average monthly cost of vehicle ownership in the US, we'll provide selected participants with $1,000 to use alternative transportation options to get around instead of relying on their private car," the ride-hailing platform said.

The alternative options includes vouchers for public transit, as well as for e-bike and e-scooter rental Lime, according to Uber ( UBER ).
