Uber Technologies, WeRide Launch Completely Autonomous Taxi Services in Abu Dhabi

03:43 AM EST, 11/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Uber Technologies ( UBER ) and WeRide ( WRD ) said Wednesday they have launched level 4 fully driverless robotaxi commercial operations in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Publicly available commercial operations without a vehicle specialist aboard began on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island, booked through a new "autonomous" category on the Uber ( UBER ) app, the companies said.

The companies described the launch as the first driverless vehicle deployment in the Middle East and the first outside the US to be hosted on Uber ( UBER ).

Uber ( UBER ) and WeRide ( WRD ) said they plan to expand Middle East operations over the coming years beginning with additional areas in the Abu Dhabi city center.
