03:42 AM EDT, 03/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Uber Technologies ( UBER ) , Wayve, and Nissan said late Wednesday they signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and deploy robotaxi services.
The partnership plans to launch a pilot program in Tokyo by late 2026, utilizing Nissan Leaf vehicles equipped with autonomous driving technology, as Uber ( UBER ) plans to do the same in 10 other cities, the companies said.
The artificial intelligence system is designed to navigate complex urban environments using real-world data without relying on mapping, but the initial testing phase will operate on the mobility network with trained safety personnel present in the vehicles, they said.
The ride-hailing operator said it intends to launch the commercial service through a licensed domestic taxi partner.
