UBS Retains Independent Ombudsman to Investigate Nazi-Linked Accounts
Jan 6, 2025 4:35 AM

07:12 AM EST, 01/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- UBS Group ( UBS ) has retained independent ombudsman Neil Barofsky to investigate Nazi-linked accounts inherited from Credit Suisse, the bank told MT Newswires Monday in an emailed statement.

On Saturday, The Wall Street Journal, citing a December 2024 letter to the U.S. Senate, reported undisclosed client files labeled "American blacklist," suggesting potential ties to Nazi-affiliated entities and a cover-up during past reviews.

"UBS is committed to contributing to a fulsome accounting of Nazi-linked legacy accounts previously held at predecessor banks of Credit Suisse," a UBS spokesperson told MT Newswires and added that "we made it a priority to ensure that the review is thorough and comprehensive and have re-engaged Neil Barofsky as Independent Ombudsman accordingly."

UBS said they are "providing all necessary assistance to facilitate his work to continue to shed more light on this tragic period in history through the review conducted."
