05:47 PM EDT, 07/31/2026 (MT Newswires) -- UK Chancellor John Healey has told Cabinet ministers they must be prepared to make spending cuts to fund news Prime Minister Andy Burnham's coming policy pledges, PA Media reported Friday.
Healey said departments must finance new priorities this year and next from their existing budgets, PA reported, citing his remarks.
He also announced Oct. 28 as the date for his first budget and said it would be "built on fiscal discipline," the report said.
In a joint letter with Burnham, Healey told ministers to shift funding away from unproductive or legacy programs that no longer reflect the government's priorities, PA reported.
