07:00 AM EST, 01/02/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Capstone Copper ( CSCCF ) on Thursday said Union #2, one of the four unions at the Mantoverde mine in Chile, will take strike action effective Friday.
Union #2 represents about 50% of Mantoverde employees, or 22% of the company's total workforce. The strike notice comes after a breakdown in discussions for a new collective bargaining agreement between Capstone and the union.
As a result of the strike, certain activities at the mine will be gradually reduced. The company expects to operate the mine at a level of up to 30% of normal production during the strike.
Capstone said it remains willing to participate in meetings to reach a resolution.
Mantoverde currently employs about 1,270 employees, including about 550 individuals from the local communities in the Atacama region of Chile. Including contractors, the total workforce at Mantoverde is about 2,940.
