08:49 AM EDT, 09/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Union Pacific ( UNP ) and Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) said Monday they are launching an intermodal service in the US.
The railroad operators said the service, which is expected begin in mid-October, will have transit times and market reach that is competitive with truck shipping services.
The service will begin and end in the Louisville area, with interchanges between Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) and Union Pacific ( UNP ) in Kansas City, the companies said. The service will connect Louisville to major cities including Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City and Houston, they said.
Shares of Union Pacific ( UNP ) and Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) were up 1.1% and 0.4%, respectively, in premarket trading.
