11:48 AM EST, 12/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- UnitedHealth Group ( UNH ) said Wednesday that Brian Thompson, chief executive of its UnitedHealthcare unit, has died, confirming earlier media reports.

The health insurer said it's "working closely" with the New York Police Department regarding the matter.

Thompson was shot and killed Wednesday morning in Manhattan in what New York police are describing as a possible targeted attack, according to multiple news reports.
