3M ( MMM ) said Tuesday that it has appointed William Brown as its chief executive officer, succeeding Michael Roman, effective May 1.

Brown is the former chair and CEO of L3Harris Technologies ( LHX ) , 3M ( MMM ) said.

Roman will take on the role of executive chairman of the company's board, effective May 1, the company added.

Shares of 3M ( MMM ) were up more than 4% in recent trading.
