11:49 AM EDT, 10/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alaska Energy Metals ( AKEMF ) said Wednesday it plans to conduct a hydrogen soil gas survey over a portion of its Angliers-Belleterre project in Quebec.
The company said the survey will determine if the project holds potential for natural, white hydrogen accumulations.
Recent soil gas sample data released by adjacent claim owner Quebec Innovative Materials ( QIMCF ) showed the potential for hydrogen accumulations to occur within the Lake Timiskaming Basin of western Quebec, which intersects with the Angliers claim block, Alaska Energy said.
"Natural hydrogen has gained prominence as a potential contributor to the low carbon energy landscape," said Gabe Graf, Alaska Energy's chief geoscientist. "Both the industry and governments worldwide have shown a growing interest in natural hydrogen exploration, which may form an important part of the future energy mix."
Alaska Energy said it will also continue advancing nickel-copper targets at the project.
The company's shares were last seen up $0.005 to $0.16 on the TSX Venture Exchange.
