11:42 AM EDT, 07/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with company's statement in third and fourth paragraphs.)
Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) has been assessed an administrative fine of around 355.1 million lira ($8.9 million) by the Turkish Competition Authority for failing to comply with regulatory obligations to remedy its dominant position in search services over local competitors, the agency said Thursday.
The government agency had imposed a number of obligations "to remedy the infringement and establish competition in the market" due to a previous probe, according to the statement.
Google ( GOOG ) said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires that it had "made a number of changes" to comply with the agency's decision, and also removed the ads format related to the penalty.
"However, we are concerned that these changes make it harder for small, local businesses to reach customers on Google ( GOOG )," the company said.
