Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) has called on the US Department of Justice to keep the company intact as officials consider breaking up the search engine giant to resolve two anti-monopoly cases, media outlets reported Wednesday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
According to the reports, the ongoing cases are related to Google's ( GOOG ) leading position in online search and advertising technology. Potential anti-monopoly remedies include divestments of certain parts of Google's ( GOOG ) business, media outlets said.
A trial over the appropriate remedies is set for April and a final ruling is expected in August, Reuters reported.
Google ( GOOG ) told MT Newswires it regularly meets with regulators to discuss the case.
"As we've publicly said, we're concerned the current proposals would harm the American economy and national security," a Google ( GOOG ) spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
The US Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
