Investigators at the UK's Competition and Markets Authority said Thursday they have closed their probe into the supply of public cloud infrastructure services and recommended commencing strategic market status investigations into Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Amazon Web Services and Microsoft ( MSFT ) .

"The action proposed by the Inquiry Group is unwarranted and undermines the substantial investment and innovation that have already benefitted hundreds of thousands of UK businesses," an Amazon Web Services spokesperson told MT Newswires. "It risks making the UK a global outlier at a time when businesses need regulatory predictability for the UK to maintain international competitiveness.
