Amazon ( AMZN ) Web Services was ordered to pay Kove $525 million Wednesday after a federal jury ruled against it in a patent infringement trial.

The Illinois jury ruled that Amazon Web Services violated three of Kove's technology patents in powering its cloud computing division.

In an emailed statement to MT Newswires, an Amazon Web Services spokesperson said the company disagrees with the ruling and intends to appeal. "We thank the jury, which also acknowledged that [Amazon Web Services] did not willfully infringe on patents," the spokesperson said.

Kove sued Amazon ( AMZN ) in 2018, Reuters reported. It has also filed a suit against Alphabet's Google ( GOOG ) .
