May 29, 2025 8:00 AM

10:39 AM EDT, 05/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with new details throughout and recent stock movement in the final paragraph.)

Amazon ( AMZN ) and Stellantis ( STLA ) have agreed to end their joint work to develop in-car software, a person familiar with the matter told MT Newswires on Thursday.

The decision by the companies to wind down their SmartCockpit collaboration was mutual and will let them better align their business strategies and develop products sought by their shared customers, the person said.

Amazon's ( AMZN ) Alexa virtual assistant will still be available in Stellantis ( STLA ) vehicles and its Amazon Web Services will continue to be the automaker's preferred cloud provider.

In a statement, a Stellantis ( STLA ) spokeswoman said the company "remains a valuable partner for Amazon ( AMZN )," later adding they were expecting to "continue to work together on a range of initiatives" in the future.

Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately return a request for comment. The move to end the joint work developing SmartCockpit was first reported by Reuters on Thursday.

Shares of Amazon ( AMZN ) and Stellantis ( STLA ) were each climbing 1.1% in recent trade.
