About half of Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) frontline warehouse workers are struggling with housing and food insecurity, as well as being able to pay their bills, according to a report by the Center for Urban Economic Development at the University of Illinois Chicago.
The report details the results of a survey of 1,484 Amazon ( AMZN ) workers across 451 facilities in 42 states. One-third of respondents said they are relying of different kinds of public assistance programs.
More than half of the workers with three years of experience at the company have been injured, according to the report. Over two-thirds of respondents took unpaid time off because of work related pain and exhaustion in the last month.
"Workers having to take unpaid time off due to pain or exhaustion are far more likely to experience food and housing insecurity, and difficulty paying their bills," Beth Gutelius, co-author of the report, said.
Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
