Amazon.com ( AMZN ) employees at seven of its US warehouses went on strike Thursday to protest what they described as labor abuses, news outlets reported.
Employees at facilities in New York, Atlanta, and San Francisco were among those taking part in the strike, Reuters reported. It took place during the final stretch of the 2024 holiday shopping season.
The striking workers represent only a small fraction of Amazon's ( AMZN ) 800,000 US employees and that facilities are continuing to operate, according to the reports.
Workers affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which claims it represents 10,000 employees, want Amazon ( AMZN ) to come to the negotiating table, the reports said.
Amazon ( AMZN ) said the disruption has had no impact on operations and that the picketers represent only a small portion of employees as well as non-employees.
"For more than a year now, the Teamsters have continued to intentionally mislead the public - claiming that they represent 'thousands of Amazon ( AMZN ) employees and drivers'. They don't, and this is another attempt to push a false narrative," Kelly Nantel, an Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson, said in response to an inquiry by MT Newswires.
"The truth is that the Teamsters have actively threatened, intimidated, and attempted to coerce Amazon ( AMZN ) employees and third-party drivers to join them, which is illegal and is the subject of multiple pending unfair labor practice charges against the union," Nantel said.
