Update: Amazon's Unionized Workers at Two New York City Facilities Vote to Authorize Strikes
Dec 13, 2024 1:34 PM

04:21 PM EST, 12/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Amazon's ( AMZN ) comment in last two paragraphs.)

Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) unionized workers at its JFK8 and DBK4 facilities in New York City have voted to authorize strikes, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters labor union representing them said Friday.

The vote follows the company's refusal to recognize the workers' union and negotiate to address wage and safety concerns, the Teamsters statement said.

Amazon ( AMZN ) management has until Sunday to engage in collective bargaining negotiations, the statement said.

The company accused the Teamsters of misleading the public by claiming to represent thousands of the Amazon ( AMZN ) employees and drivers.

"They don't, and this is another attempt to push a false narrative," Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson Eileen Hards said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires. "The truth is that the Teamsters have actively threatened, intimidated, and attempted to coerce Amazon ( AMZN ) employees and third-party drivers to join them, which is illegal and is the subject of multiple pending unfair labor practice charges."
