Update: Apple Defeats Campaign to Unionize New Jersey Retail Store
May 13, 2024 10:41 AM

12:20 PM EDT, 05/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with comments from Communications Workers of America in the third paragraph)

Apple ( AAPL ) employees at one of its New Jersey retail stores voted against joining the Communications Workers of America labor union, 57-41, in a vote that closed on Saturday, according to the National Labor Relations Board.

The CWA can challenge the election results within five days and it has previously filed a complaint with the NLRB alleging retaliation by the company against a leader of the campaign, according to multiple media reports.

"Apple ( AAPL ) has failed to respect the rights of its employees to freely choose to join a union. Instead of leaving the decision up to the workers themselves, the company turned to its usual anti-union playbook to influence the results of the election," a CWA spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires. "Apple's ( AAPL ) union-busting is a widespread problem that underscores workers' need to have an independent voice on the job to ensure the company lives up to its credo."

Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
