Apple ( AAPL ) faces an investigation by Poland's antitrust authority UOKiK into whether the US tech giant's privacy rules limit competition in mobile advertising, the regulator said Tuesday.
The review centers on Apple's ( AAPL ) App Tracking Transparency framework in iOS 14.5 and later versions, which limits third-party data collecting while benefiting Apple's ( AAPL ) own ads business, the regulator said.
App Tracking Transparency framework may mislead users about privacy protections and unfairly tilt the market against independent publishers, UOKiK president Tomasz Chrostny said.
The authority believes the conduct could amount to an abuse of a dominant position. If violations are confirmed, Apple ( AAPL ) could face a fine of up to 10% of its Polish turnover, according to the statement.
Apple ( AAPL ) may have to withdraw the ATT framework in Europe, and would like to work with the Polish authority to retain its function, a Reuters report quoted Apple ( AAPL ) as saying.
Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
