Update: Apple Reportedly Delays Rollout of AI Features in EU Due to Regulatory Concerns
Jun 21, 2024 11:35 AM

02:00 PM EDT, 06/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to include additional details and a request for comment in the second to fifth paragraphs.)

Apple ( AAPL ) is withholding the launch of its artificial intelligence platform and other new features in the European Union due to "uncertainties" related to new competition rules in the bloc, according to media reports Friday.

The company said its EU users wouldn't get access to Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing this year because of "regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act," the Financial Times reported, citing Apple ( AAPL ).

Apple ( AAPL ) would block the release of the features in the EU because the company is allegedly forced by the DMA to downgrade the security of its products and services, Bloomberg reported.

"We are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security," Bloomberg quoted Apple ( AAPL ) as saying in a statement.

Apple ( AAPL ) didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
