Update: Barclays Reportedly Loses Appeal to UK Motor Finance Ruling
Dec 17, 2024 6:12 AM

08:56 AM EST, 12/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with a statement from Barclays ( JJCTF ) in the last paragraph.)

Barclays ( JJCTF ) lost an appeal to overturn a Financial Ombudsman Service ruling that it is unlawful for car dealers to receive a commission from banks without the customer's consent, media outlets reported Tuesday.

The High Court dismissed the bank's challenge against the FOS ruling that it unfairly added a commission of 1,300 British pounds ($1,650) in relation to an auto loan, reports said.

"As we have previously stated, this challenge related to a single, specific case on which we disagreed with the Financial Ombudsman Service's decision," a Barclays ( JJCTF ) spokesperson told MT Newswires. "We are disappointed in the Court's ruling and will be appealing."
