02:53 PM EST, 12/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Barrick's response to a request for comment.)

Barrick Gold (GOLD) Chief Executive Mark Bristow is facing an arrest warrant in Mali on charges of money laundering and violation of financial regulations, multiple media reports said Thursday, including Reuters, citing a warrant document.

The African country issued the warrant amid rising tensions with miners over a revised mining code that would give the government a larger share of revenues from the companies, Reuters reported.

Mali previously arrested four senior local employees of Barrick over the dispute, according to reports.

Barrick declined to comment to MT Newswires.

The company's US-listed shares were down 2.8% in recent trading.
