Update: Boeing Officials Should Get Prosecuted Over Safety Failures, Senators Write
Oct 4, 2024 8:14 AM

07:16 AM EDT, 10/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Boeing's ( BA ) response in the last paragraph.)

Boeing ( BA ) came under fire this week by two US senators who demanded that the Department of Justice criminally prosecute company officials.

US Senators Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., accused Boeing ( BA ) of maintaining a "corporate culture that has promoted short-term profit over passenger safety" in an Oct. 2 letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco.

The letter said "serious safety issues" continue to appear on Boeing ( BA ) planes despite Department of Justice efforts to compel improvement and continuous executive changes. It said machinists, managers, and the National Transportation Safety Board continue to find safety concerns.

"For too long, corporate executives have routinely escaped prosecution for criminal misconduct," the letter said. "This coddling comes at the expense of customer and worker safety, and it must end."

The senators urged federal prosecutors to "carefully review" Boeing ( BA ) executives' behavior and culpability and hold them "criminally accountable" for putting profit over safety and promoting a culture that "disregards passenger safety in violation of federal laws and regulations."

In an email to MT Newswires, Boeing ( BA ) declined to comment.
