01:58 PM EDT, 06/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with the union's response in the fourth paragraph.)
Canadian National Railway ( CNI ) said Thursday it formally offered binding arbitration earlier this week to the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference.
"This process has a mutually agreed upon independent arbitrator settle the labor dispute by evaluating the demands of each side and deciding on the terms of the new collective agreement," the company said.
The union has rejected all offers and declined to participate in a voluntary arbitration process, the company said.
"The call for binding arbitration at this late stage of the bargaining process underscores the disingenuousness and failure of CN's negotiation strategy," the union told MT Newswires. "Provisions currently in our agreements regarding crew scheduling, hours of work, and fatigue management are safety-critical."
