Mar 11, 2024 10:06 AM

12:48 PM EDT, 03/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to include statement from American Honda Motor in the fourth and fifth paragraphs.)

Honda Motor's ( HMC ) Insight and Passport vehicles from model years 2019 to 2022 are being investigated over alleged rapid deceleration due to "inadvertent activation of the automatic emergency braking system," according to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

About 250,712 vehicles are under preliminary evaluation, which aims to assess potential safety-related issues, the NHTSA said.

The regulator said that the Office of Defects Investigation received 46 complaints alleging that inadvertent braking events happened without warning.

American Honda Motor ( HMC ) told MT Newswires on Monday it is conducting an internal review of the available information.

"We are aware that the NHTSA has initiated a preliminary evaluation, their first level of investigation, regarding a limited number of consumer reports of inadvertent activation of the automatic emergency braking system," American Honda said. "Honda ( HMC ) has already been in communication with the agency on this topic and will cooperate with the NHTSA through the investigation process."
