Update: Citigroup, Mastercard Partner to Allow Cross-Border Debit Card Payments

09:14 AM EDT, 10/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to add the confirmation from Citigroup ( C ) and Mastercard ( MA ) throughout.)

Citigroup ( C ) and Mastercard (MA) said Thursday they are partnering to allow Citigroup ( C ) clients to make cross-border payments to Mastercard ( MA ) debit cards in 14 markets.

The companies said clients will be able to make transactions through the Mastercard Move service including insurance payouts, airline refunds and e-commerce payments.

The partnership is expected to "enable our clients to make cross-border payments as though there are no borders, no currencies, no constraints," said Debopama Sen, head of payments for Citi's treasury & trade solutions business.

The debit card offering will be available to Citigroup's ( C ) clients in 65 countries, according to the joint statement.
