08:54 AM EDT, 10/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with statement from CVS Health ( CVS ) throughout.)
CVS Health ( CVS ) said Monday it is leaving the infusion health services business it bought for $2.1 billion more than a decade ago and shuttering 29 infusion-related pharmacies in upcoming months.
The company has already stopped accepting new patients seeking antibiotics, muscle supplements, and vitamin injections, Reuters reported, but it will continue to provide nutritional tube feeding at pharmacies in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and San Diego, as well as nursing services.
"We will coordinate with the patients, their providers, and health plans on a safe transition to a new provider," the company said.
Any potential workforce reductions will be announced next month and take place in late January, the company said.
The 29 pharmacies specializing in infusion services may be sold off instead or shuttered, the company said.
"Providers of infused medications have continued to face a challenging environment for their most highly specialized, complex services," the company said.
