Update: Dow Says Canadian Court Orders Nova Chemicals to Pay Dow Additional $1.18 Billion in Damages
Jun 11, 2025 7:15 AM

09:52 AM EDT, 06/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Nova Chemicals' response in the fourth paragraph.)

Dow (DOW) said Wednesday that the Court of King's Bench of Alberta, Canada, has ordered Nova Chemicals to pay an additional amount of 1.62 billion Canadian dollars ($1.18 billion) in damages to Dow.

The order, signed on Tuesday, relates to losses Dow incurred from the parties' jointly owned ethylene asset in Joffre, Alberta, the company said, adding that it expects to receive the payment in Q4.

Dow said the judgment is subject to appeal.

"We are disappointed with the court's quantification of its previously issued decision," a Nova spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email. "NOVA appealed the decision in early May, and are in the process of determining next steps."
