02:52 PM EDT, 05/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with additional details in third and fourth paragraphs, attempt to reach Boeing ( BA ) for comment in fifth paragraph.)
The Federal Aviation Administration will continue to hold Boeing ( BA ) accountable after reviewing the company's proposal to fix its safety and quality-control issues, Administrator Mike Whitaker said Thursday after a three-hour meeting with senior Boeing ( BA ) officials.
"I made clear once again that we need to see a strong and unwavering commitment to safety, which must always come first, Whitaker said. "Systemic change isn't easy but in this case is absolutely necessary, and the work is never really done when it comes to the safety of the flying public -- from Boeing ( BA ), airlines, or the FAA. But we will hold the company accountable every step of the way to make sure these changes happen."
Boeing's ( BA ) senior officials led by Chief Executive David Calhoun presented the proposal, which was crafted in the wake of the Jan. 5 Alaska Airlines' (ALK) Boeing 737 MAX door plug incident, and discussed future implementation during the meeting, the FAA said in a statement.
The FAA also said it will actively monitor Boeing's ( BA ) implementation of the safety roadmap, address any challenges in implementing the changes, and continue its enhanced oversight of Boeing ( BA ) and its suppliers.
Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
