Update: Ford 2019 Flex Vehicles' Rear-View Cameras Under Preliminary NHTSA Probe
Oct 17, 2024 2:47 PM

11:05 AM EDT, 10/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Ford's comment in the fifth paragraph.)

Ford Motor's ( F ) rear-view cameras on its 2019 Flex vehicles are under preliminary investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation for alleged failures.

The preliminary investigation was launched Friday following receipt of 23 complaints submitted by vehicle owners to the NHTSA.

The complaints allege the rear-view cameras display "blank, distorted, or inverted images" when the vehicle is in reverse.

NHTSA said on its website "an inverted or upside-down image can provide false information to the driver," which may pose safety risks. The investigation aims to evaluate the extent and severity of the problem and "fully assess the potential safety-related problems."

"We are working with NHTSA to support its investigation," a Ford spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires.
