US regulators said Tuesday that they are investigating a Feb. 24 deadly crash involving a Ford (F) motor vehicle with autonomous driving capability in Texas.

The National Highway and Transportation Safety Authority "has launched a special crash investigation into a fatal Ford Mustang crash earlier this month in Texas," an agency spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires, declining further comment.

The National Transportation Safety Board, which makes safety recommendations, said on its website Friday that it is also examining the crash, which involved an electric-powered SUV that struck another stationary passenger vehicle on Interstate Highway 10 in San Antonio.

"Safety issues to be examined include driver interactions with advanced driver assistance system," said a notice.

The Wall Street Journal on Monday cited reports by local police describing the accident as involving a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV which struck the rear of a Honda CR-V stationary in a traffic lane, killing the driver.

The police report said the Ford electrical vehicle had "partial automation" engaged at the time of the crash, the Journal reported.

Ford told MT Newswires that it was only recently made aware of the incident and vowed to "collaborate fully" with any investigation. "The complete facts of this event are not yet clear," the company said. "Ford reported this incident to NHTSA as soon as we were made aware, and we are actively researching all available information."
