Ford Motor ( F ) will slash up to 1,000 jobs at its electric vehicle facility in Cologne, Germany, due to weak market demand, the automaker confirmed Tuesday in an emailed statement to MT Newswires.
Ford said it will switch production at the Cologne plant to single-shift operation in January 2026 and offer voluntary redundancy packages to those affected by the job cuts.
The company said that the industry had projected European electric vehicle registrations at 35% when it opened its Cologne facility in 2023, but noted that the figure is expected to remain well below expectations at 20% by the end of 2025.
Electric vehicle demand in Europe is still "significantly below" industry forecasts, it said.
