Update: Ford Motor Recalls Nearly 500,000 Vehicles in US Over Brake Fluid Issue, NHTSA Says
Aug 28, 2025 8:52 AM

11:32 AM EDT, 08/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Ford Motor ( F ) response and recent share movement in the fifth and sixth paragraphs.)

Ford Motor ( F ) is recalling almost 500,000 vehicles in the US over a brake fluid issue, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A brake fluid leak can extend the needed distance to stop the vehicle, increasing crash risks, the auto-safety agency said Thursday.

Ford has not received any reported accident or injury related to the issue, which involves certain Edge model years 2015-18 and MKX model years 2016-18.

The NHTSA said an estimated 1% of the recalled vehicles have the defect.

"The root cause of the rear brake hose leaks is currently under investigation," Ford said in a statement emailed to MT Newswires. "The remedy for this condition is currently under development."

Shares of the carmaker were down 2.1% in recent trading.
