Ford Motor's ( F ) hands-free driver assistance system, BlueCruise, is facing a preliminary investigation by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after the regulator was notified of two collisions involving Ford cars using the technology, according to a filing made public by the NHTSA on Monday.
The regulator said the investigation was opened after its Office of Defects Investigation received notice of fatalities resulting from two incidents involving Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles colliding with stationary vehicles on controlled-access highways during "nighttime lighting conditions."
"This investigation will evaluate the system's performance of the dynamic driving task and driver monitoring," the NHTSA said.
"We are working with NHTSA to support its investigation," Ford said in response to MT Newswires' request for comment.
