Update: Google Accused by Missouri AG of Supressing Conservative Speech
Nov 3, 2024 11:31 AM

08:44 AM EDT, 10/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Google's ( GOOG ) statement in the last two paragraphs.)

Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) was accused of suppressing conservative speech on its platform by Missouri's Attorney General Andrew Bailey.

"I'm launching an investigation into Google ( GOOG ) -- the biggest search engine in America -- for censoring conservative speech during the most consequential election in our nation's history," Bailey posted on social media platform X on Thursday. "Google ( GOOG ) is waging war on the democratic process. It's time to fight back."

In a statement shared with MT Newswires, a Google ( GOOG ) spokesperson described the claims as "totally false."

"Independent studies have confirmed that Google Search is nonpartisan," the spokesperson said. "Search serves all our users, and our business rests on showing useful information to everyone - no matter what their political beliefs are."
