Update: Google Investing Additional $1.1 Billion in Finland Data Center

Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) is making a further investment of 1 billion euros ($1.09 billion) to expand its data center campus in Hamina, Finland, the company confirmed to MT Newswires in an email Monday.

The Hamina site offers jobs to roughly 400 people and the latest investment will add 100 more full-time jobs, the company added.

The investment will bring Google's ( GOOG ) total investment in the country to over 4.5 billion euros, the technology giant said.

Additionally, Google ( GOOG ) said in a blog post it is partnering with energy provider Haminan Energia to launch its first offsite heat recovery project, which will capture heat from the Hamina data center and reroute this for free to the local district heating network to warm homes, schools and public service buildings.

Financial terms of the collaboration weren't disclosed.
