01:41 PM EDT, 07/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with the union's response, and new information throughout.)
Unionized hotel workers in four US cities could soon authorize a potential strike against Marriott International ( MAR ) , Hilton Worldwide ( HLT ) , Hyatt Hotels ( H ) and Omni Hotels & Resorts after contract talks failed, the employees' union said Wednesday.
Around 13,500 Unite Here members in Boston, Honolulu, Providence and San Francisco have scheduled strike-authorization votes starting on Aug. 6, the union said. Negotiations stalled over several issues, including wages, jobs responsibilities and the reversal of COVID-era staffing cuts, said Gwen Mills, Unite Here international president.
Hyatt Hotels ( H ) is willing to negotiate and has prepared contingency plans to prevent operational disruptions across the country, Hyatt Hotels' ( H ) Americas head of labor relations Michael D'Angelo told MT Newswires.
Marriott International ( MAR ) and Hilton Worldwide ( HLT ) did not immediately respond to requests seeking comment from MT Newswires.
