Update: Imperial Metals Loses 5.2% as It and a Subsidiary Charged for Allegedly Violating Fisheries Act

Imperial Metals ( IPMLF ) and its subsidiary Mount Polley Mining, along with engineering firm Wood Canada, have been charged with allegedly violating the federal Fisheries Act, according to a Monday news release.

The allegations stemmed from the failure of the tailings storage facility at the Mount Polley copper and gold mine in August 2014. The collapse of the dam holding tailings spilled about 17-million cubic meters of water and eight-million cubic meters of tailings and materials into Polley Lake, Hazeltine Creek and Quesnel Lake with significant impact, according to the British Columbia government .

The charges were outlined in an indictment filed with the Supreme Court of British Columbia on Dec. 6.

Imperial Metals ( IPMLF ) shares were last seen down $0.11 to $2.00 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
