Intel ( INTC ) said Wednesday that Chief Executive Lip-Bu Tan will oversee the chipmaker's artificial intelligence projects after chief technology officer departed for Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI.

Sachin Katti said in a social media post Monday he was joining OpenAI after four years at Intel ( INTC ).

"Lip-Bu will lead the AI and Advanced Technologies Groups, working closely with the team," Intel ( INTC ) said in a statement e-mailed to MT Newswires. "AI remains one of Intel's ( INTC ) highest strategic priorities, and we are focused on executing our technology and product roadmap across emerging AI workloads."

OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
