Update: IonQ Shares Rise After Quantum Simulations Beat Classical Methods
Oct 13, 2025 10:51 AM

01:35 PM EDT, 10/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with stock movement in the headline and the first paragraph.)

IonQ ( IONQ ) shares rose 16% in recent Monday trading after the company announced that its quantum chemistry simulations accurately calculated atomic-level forces using a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm known as auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo.

The demonstration, conducted with an unnamed automotive manufacturer, delivered results that were "more accurate" than classical methods and showed meaningful progress in applying quantum computing to real-world chemistry problems, the company said.

"This research demonstrates a clear path for quantum computing to enhance chemical simulations that are foundational to decarbonization technologies," IonQ ( IONQ ) Chief Executive Officer Niccolo de Masi said in a statement. It shows "a practical capability that can be integrated into molecular dynamics workflows used across pharmaceuticals, battery and chemical industries."
