Update: Italian Regulator Closes Google Probe After Agreement on More Robust Consent
Nov 24, 2025 3:35 AM

06:14 AM EST, 11/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with response from Google ( GOOG ) in the fifth and sixth paragraphs.)

The Italian Competition Authority said Friday that it has closed its investigation into Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) subsidiary Google's ( GOOG ) linking of user activity across its services after receiving commitments by the company to provide user consent.

The investigation, launched in July 2024, was closed after Google ( GOOG ) committed to give users "more detailed and accurate information on the combination and cross-use of personal data across its services," the regulator said.

The company has also agreed to provide clearer information on how users can customize their consent by choosing to grant it only for certain services, the regulator said.

Google ( GOOG ) has also agreed to notify Italian users a summary of their settings, the regulator said.

Google ( GOOG ) said in a statement that it is making "simple updates" to its information screens to help users decide if they want to link to its services.

"When linked, they can do things like combine data to help personalize content and ads, give access to certain features, and develop and improve our services," the company said.
