Update: Kroger Finalizes $1.37 Billion US Opioid Settlement, States Say

Kroger ( KR ) has finalized a $1.37 billion settlement with a coalition of 30 state attorneys general, addressing the grocer's alleged role in the US opioid crisis, several state attorneys general announced Monday.

Kroger ( KR ) will be subject to injunctive relief that will require monitoring and sharing data related to suspicious opioid activity across its pharmacies, according to the settlement.

Under the agreement, the company agreed to pay $1.2 billion over the next 11 years, with $172.8 million in fees over the next 6 years.

A Kroger ( KR ) spokesperson told MT Newswires the company is satisfied with the multistate settlement, confirming it will pay "over $1.2 billion in support of opioid abatement efforts nationwide while resolving nearly all the outstanding opioid-related claims against the company."

Virginia expects to receive up to $29.4 million for opioid abatement as part of the settlement, while Nevada anticipates $26.7 million, according to Attorneys General Jason Miyares and Aaron Ford, respectively.

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes said they expect around $45 million from the settlement, while North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein said they are looking to receive $40 million.
