10:45 AM EDT, 06/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Adds more detail beginning in third paragraph).
Airbus has warned airlines some of their jet deliveries due in the next two years could be delayed, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Plane deliveries could be delayed by months from when they were originally due, the people reportedly told Bloomberg.
Blaming "persistent and specific supply-chain issues," Airbus earlier this week backed away from its plans to ramp up production amid a string of recent problems at rival builder Boeing ( BA ) and surging demand for new jets among its airline customers, which in the US includes carriers Delta (DAL), American Airlines ( AAL ) , Frontier (ULCC) and Hawaiian Airlines (HA).
But by extending into 2026, the new delays would go beyond Airbus' previously reportedly supply-chain problems, the Bloomberg report said.
In an email message to MT Newswires late Tuesday, an Airbus spokesperson declined to detail those difficulties, writing the company "does not comment on confidential discussions with suppliers."
