Update: Market Chatter: Alphabet's Google May Face New EU Probe Over News Publisher Rankings
Nov 13, 2025 2:34 AM

05:28 AM EST, 11/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with the European Commission's response in fourth paragraph.)

Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) is set to face a new investigation by the European Commission into how it ranks news publishers in search results, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing officials familiar with the matter.

The inquiry will examine claims that Google ( GOOG ) downgraded publishers featuring third-party promotional or sponsored content, which media outlets say are key to their business models, the report said.

The potential probe could be launched under the EU's Digital Markets Act which targets anti-competitive behavior by large online platforms, according to the report.

The European Commission declined to comment and Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
